Hi all,

Our ‘enter before’ date is fast approaching and we’re probably not going to make Mongolia in time so we’ll probably get a new visa in Almaty - do you know if we can enter with a car on these visas?

The original visa we planned on entering on - we wrote a letter to the consulate outlining our journey through Mongolia...

Cheers

Steve

Yes, there are no separate car visas anywhere on the Silk Road.

Hi,
A short update. We just got our visa yesterday at Almaty consulate.
Team is welcoming.
Few things to know:
Travelers in campervan, team is keeping your car card with your passport and give you back when you take visa.
They dont accept old dollars, only what they call "blue dollars" (in fact new one).
The almaty phone number on caravanistan page and on google page are wrong, but the good news, they have a camera ring on door.

We tried to negociate to have directly a 2months visa, no-way. But we got a J standard visa

Enjoy!

No luck for us, as of today the Mongolian embassy in Almaty is not delivering visa for 2 weeks, because the person in charge is on holidays (!!).

Alternatives are Bishkek or Astana/Nuur Sultan. We are so disappointed :(

We tried to apply to de Mongolian visa yesterday morning in Bishkek. They told us to come back at 4 o’clock as he responsable person wasn’t there. I thought we were going to safe time by getting it in Almaty. Now in Almaty and Unfortunately the ambassador is on holidays and they don’t know when is he back “maybe next week or the week after” :(
We are thinking what’s the best option... going back to Bishkek(234km + a border crossing) or drive straight to Nur-Sultan (1213km) Did anyone got the visa recently in Bishkek?

Currently no Mongolian Visa in Almaty till 16th August 2019.

Today in Almaty we were told that the ambassador was changing and that nobody could approve the applications at the moment. The last day they issued visa was Friday 02 August.

Until August 16, no Mongolian visas will be issued in Almaty.

We applied for the visa yesterday (22 aug) in Almaty and got it today. Initially they said it would take 3 days, but after mentioning that we needed our passports back sooner they said we could get it the next day. They also asked for tickets in and out of the country and booking of a hotel. However, we did not have those and they gave us a visa anyway. Cost: 58 dollar

We have applied for the visa yesterday, similar to the last post, we arrived and had to ring the number in the end as no one answered the bell. He wanted conformation of public transport and where we were staying but we didn’t have any. This seem a problem to start but in the end he told us to book somewhere in Ulan Bator, for the whole time we are going to be there, then he printed it out and was helpful. He gave us the forms to fill in. Needed the 2 passport photos. We paid $58 but it takes 3 days, could have it earlier but he wanted $88 for it.
