Re: No Visa But LOI needed?

Post by steven »

It is not spelled out as such in the announcements, but that sounds a bit crazy to me, to have to get a LOI but not a visa, since the LOI is a document to take to the embassy to receive your visa.

Since you don't need to go to the embassy to receive a visa, I don't see the point of getting a LOI.

I'm guessing that the government wants to open up tourism but not quite ready to let everyone in. Fingers crossed with the new president it should get better on a cosmic speed!
One reason I have read is that the government does not want to let, for instance, young Uzbeks who have emigrated to USA in, since they might cause trouble.

Main reason I think is that the new president wants to improve the economy, but continue the maximum security police state. From this angle, old people on bus tours are safe. Young backpackers are trouble.

Big changes to Uzbeck visas

Post by lissie45 »

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/desti ... -tourists/ - unfortunately won't help NZ passport holders but good news for many Europeans.

Interesting restriction to over 55's for some countries. The only other time I've seen that was when Saudi Arabia only allowed single females in if they were over 40. In some ways it makes some sense- fast growing niche of travellers who stay some time and spend some money compared to some others.

Just to be sure, do the new visa regulations apply at all land borders as well as airports? Thanks
