Hi,

I'm from Holland and arrived at Almaty Airport last week visa-free for 30 days. Had no problem whatsoever.

Polish passport, just entered Kazakhstan through border crossing between Merke and Bishkek. They had a fax with the list of countries, they only had to check if I qualified for the visa-free entry because it was a novelty for them as well. Then they let me in. One stamp on migration card. They said I didn't have to register although I am planning to check it in Almaty.

I have not read the document completely but it is true now that Visa Rules have been changed with effect from January 1, 2017. News:

http://www.indembastana.in/news_detail.php?id=156

New Visa Policy of Kazakhstan with effect from 1st January, 2017

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan announced a revised visa policy on 20th December, 2016 that will come into effect from 1st January, 2017. The revised policy is aimed at creating a more favourable investment climate, encouraging business contacts and developing tourism potential of the country.

In a major change from the existing procedure, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan will deal with the approval of invitations for entry of foreign nationals into Kazakhstan. The inviting party can apply for registration of invitations at any of the immigration offices across the country as against the two foreign offices in Astana and Almaty at present.

At the bottom of the page, you can download the complete new document.

I got a migration card though that says I need to register within 5 days from entering Kazakhstan.
You guys know if it's pain-free?
