We are french and italian, we want to get iranian visa in Dubai and then take the boat to Bandar-Abbas.We apply through the e-visa system, everythink was fine but today when we went to the consulate in Dubai they told us that the e-visa process was only for the resident in UAE, he asks our resident permit... Then we said ok to do the normal procedure but he said that was only possible if we have iranian friend who can apply for us at the Ministry of foreign Affair in Teheran. He also said that maybe an agency in Dubai can help, we have been there but unfortunately they said that the rules recenty changed and it is no more possible for them to do visa if we arrive in Bandar-Abbas (south port of iran) without having a tour-guid organize for all our trip...

It is not clear on the embassy report of Dubai (here on Caravanistan website) if to get a iranian visa in Dubai,it was also necessary to get a LOI/reference code??? If not, now it is necessary. We just did our request of LOI trough caravanistan...waiting for your answer and hoping that it will be possible to get our Iranian visa here in Dubai ! :)

Here how the story ends up:
Because we already start the process with e-visa we couldn't start at the same time with a travel agency so we had to figure out how this e-visa system work. We came back at the iranian embassy and ask them to send our request to Téheran even if we were not resident here; the man ask why we didn't want to take the plane and get the visa on arrival...we answer that we don't like to take airplane... He smiled and accept our demand. 4 working days later, on the eebiste on the e-visa request our statut move from "waiting for verification" to "accepted" ! We called the man on the embassy ( ask his mobile number because they never answer on the main phone) and he confirms that we could come to the embassy to finish the process. We just had to give them the copy with the codebar of the online process and a copy of our passeport, pay 250 dirham each + 80 dirham each (for fingerprint if 1st time going to Iran) and the same day we get our visa. So an important thing is to ask the embassy to send the request to Teheran.
Then we hear about other travellers who just get their visa also here in Dubai with a LOI with the help of caravanistan. It took more time with the e-visa process but no need to pay for the LOI. Depends how long you want to stay in UAE. Maybe it will be quicker in the future, we were among the first e-visa request non-resident for Dubai embassy.

Im going to apply for the iranian visa in Dubai next week, but have no idea about fingerprints - is i to be done at the embassy or have to go to the police station? If so, that would mean one should dedicate 2 days to do it as the main police station is far.
Also - any idea if women have to wear scarf on a photo? It was not necessary for the authorisation code application.

Important reminders for everyone as I didn't see anyone point this out in other posts.

Dubai embassy requires you to purchase an insurance, which is compulsory even you have your own international/travel insurance, it costs 115 Dirham for a 30days visa.

Bring enough cash, there's an ATM inside the embassy but it DOES NOT accept any international cards, only for UAE bank cards.

And you will need to hand in one passport copy of the front page for the insurance. (There's a copier in embassy, 1 dirham / 1copy)

Your visa will received on the next working day if you apply through LOI.

*Answering the question above, women no need to wear scarf on your photo.

Getting an Iran-Visa in Muscat/Dubai

Hi everyone,

We travel through Iran to Oman, then - in spring - we would like to go back through Iran. Do you have any experiences in getting a visa at the Iranian embassy in Muscat or Dubai? How much time do we have to account for that procedure? Do we need to apply for a reference number in advance?

Thank you for your help,

Lea and Flurin
