On Caravanistan, i can read that within 7 days you must register at the immigration offices of UB or Olgii to be able to extend your visa. I just found this on mongoliavisa.com :
In what cases, should I register for residence?
If foreign visitors intend to reside in Mongolia for more than 30 days, you must register with Immigration Office at least 3 working days prior to your visa expiration and unregister once you leave the country.
Anyone here who recently did a registration and share his/her experience?
Also, in Vientiane, Laos, the very friendly consul gives a 30 days visa on the spot for 50$ with 90 days validity. I am a french citizen.

I just updated the site with a report I got a few days ago by e-mail. So it is fresh. Only update: it is not 7 days before registering, but 7 business days.
