Iranian contact for visa application

Postby Ivan » Tue May 09, 2017 3:44 pm

Hello!
I have a friend from France who goes overland to Iran and plans to apply for the Iranian visa somewhere along the way. She asked me to give her a contact of some of my Iranian friends who's number she can put on the application form. I am little hesitant to do it since I wouldn't like to put any of my friends in an uncomfortable position if police calls to ask questions. From my experience so far not mentioning individuals is always the better idea. She says there is no way around this... Is that true? Hotel address doesn't work? Thanks in advance!

Your friend is wrong (and pretty inconsiderate, it seems). Almost everyone who gets an Iranian visa doesn't know anyone who lives there.

The vast majority gets a LOI from a tour company, see for instance http://caravanistan.com/visa/iran/visa- ... nvitation/

I think your feelings are right - your friend sounds exactly like the kind of person who could get a local into trouble. When you invite someone, you become responsible for them. If they do something stupid, it's the local who is going to suffer most.

Whiplashes are a common punishment in Iran...just saying.

Thank you Steven, exactly my thoughts.
I was extending my visa in Iran twice (Bandar Abbas and Bandar Bushehr) and both times had good friends listed and both times actually regretted since it was unnecessary hassle for them and for me. If you have an ''Iran visa extension'' section you can add that my suggestion is to always have a hotel reservation (or just the name of the hotel) because with the private address officials are just very confused and don't know what to do so they start making phone calls. And if it's a single traveling female then they are extra cautious.
