Embassy report: Turkmenistan transit visa in Bucharest

Postby Wheels on the run » Wed May 10, 2017 7:42 pm

A couple, both from Croatia applied for transit visa in the embassy in Bucharest as they are accredited for Croatian citizens. Staff were super polite and helpful on the phone (they pick up the phone, believe it or not) and over email. First we sent photocopies of our documents - passports, visas for Iran and Uzbekistan, a letter explaining our route and two photos each. These documents went for approval/refusal to Ashgabat. We started traveling as we were told that if we get approved we can collect our visa in Turkmen embassy or consulate anywhere along our way. 10 days later we got an email saying we got transit visas (yaaay!) and should either collect them in Bucharest or send our passports by post. This came as a surprise as we got different information earlier. We were lucky enough we were in Belgrade at the time so we went there to pick them up personally even though Romania was not part of our itinerary and we had to add extra 500 km to our motorcycle trip. But anyway - we got them!
