LOI needed for Kazakh transit visa?

Hi all,

I will be applying for a Kazakh transit visa from Urumqi. I am South African and therefore do not crack the nod for tourist LOI exemption. Does anyone know if you still need an LOI if applying for a transit visa?

Hi,

last week i called embassy of kazakh in Singapore, they said any visa (including transit visa) need LOI if u are not included in 47 countries with simplified procedure, but i try contact embassy in Jakarta, they said LOI not needed for transit visa but they need visa for country you start and end, transportation ticket and do interview.

So i think transit visa requirement is depend on the embassy

I have a Kazakh friend who can provide me with an LOI. Does anyone know if a simple letter from her with relevant details will suffice, or do you have to go through a travel agent?

Only possible through travel agent. Will add the LOI info to the Transit visa page, I noticed it is not listed yet!

Hi, it's up. Nothing new there: you need it, poss. some embassies can do it without. Meaning, ask first at the embassy of your choice if you need it, if yes, get the loi.

Canadians absolutely don't Need a LOI for Transit (or a 1-month Tourist visa for that matter).

As for Chinese, some embassies require a LOI even for transit while others don't. Check with yours.

Crazydre, thanks for your insight! I was able to indeed confirm with my local Consulates, it is as you indicated. Chinese do need a LOI when applying in Canada.

However, it seems if you apply for a transit visa at the Kazakh Embassy in Tashkent or Bishkek, you don't need a LOI. Have you heard about this?
