Embassy report: applying for Uzbek visa in Jakarta

Post by Lisa and Michael »

Hi,
today we applied for our Uzbek visa in Jakarta, Indonesia (pickup in Almaty). German passports.

We had a bit of problem contacting the embassy first, as we couldn't find any business hours at their homepage and the mailadress they are providing there didn't work. Also the (first) phone number didn't work via Skype.

But then we found the email address [email protected], and from that moment all went smoothly. So make sure you use this address.

Their business hours for the visa section is monday to Friday from 9-12 am. They ask to call by phone the day before, which we did with the number they provided us in their mail. (62-21) 7200 972. It's a friendly Indonesian lady who will answer in perfect English and also tell you what you need. Twice the application with pic glued on it, twice passport copy, nothing else.

Then we went there, it's a small black door up the stairs, round the corner from the main entrance. The Indonesian lady opened, had a look at our papers, called the very young looking consul, who was also really friendly, checked our passports and wished is a good trip. He'll forward the documents, and advised us to check the status online.

It took us less than five minutes. So smooth and friendly! Now we just have to see how it works in Almaty next week ;-)

Happy travels!

Just to add- put "Embassy of Uzbekistan" in Google maps for the location. If you put "Embassy of the republic of Uzbekistan" it will show you an outdated address nearby the current one

To conclude finally: applying in Indonesia without LOI seems to work perfectly!

Applied on wed, 9th in Jakarta, on monday, 14th, as I entered my passport number, my telex code appeared. We waited a few more days, as when entering my husband's passport number it only replied "we have not any information for you" (this message appeared till we got the visa, btw). We applied both on one application.

So, yesterday we went to the embassy in Almaty, and it seems we catched a more chaotic day. Arriving at 14:30, they only opened the gate at 15:15, nearly pressed to death 😉,
our passports only got taken at about 15:45, then it took a while, and even after returning the payment slip, it took an hour. We finally could leave with our 30 day-visa (75$per person) at 6:15 pm.

So, on to Uzbekistan next week!
