Went to apply for our Iranian visa at the embassy in Dushanbe today.
Here is how it went.
Needed LOI (from Parasia, Bishkek $20)
2 photos with hair covered
Copy of passport
copy of travel insurance

We were then shown around the corner to where a woman translated our passport information into Farsi on the application. Cost 20 Somoni each.

After this we were directed to the Iranian bank about 2km away and made to pay 180 Euros EACH!!! We were able to pay in Somoni or US (there is no ATM at this bank).

I had no idea about it being so expensive. Is this new? Or only for Australians? They guy would not answer us when we asked about when the price went up (we were put on the phone to someone who spoke english).

Went back to embassy and told to pick up our passports tomorrow.

Need to Research, but I think the fact that you are Australian has to do with it. UK, Canada, USA also very expensive.

Just a quick update on Iranian visa.

We've got our Iranian visa in Bishkek and paid 50 euro for Slovak passport and 100 Euro for Australian passport. This was last week 10th of September and it took them 2 days to issue it.

I know the Iranian embassy in Australia has raised the visa fee in June to 160 AUD per person, but 180 Euro sounds like the amount UK and American citizen pay.

Interesting... I've added a price section to the Iran visa article. Looking for more updates on price fluctuations, the only other resource I found online is out of date, so I will build something on Caravanistan to keep us all up to date.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks. I suspected being an Australian might have something to do with it. Think I will use my German passport next time!
Thanks

Iranian embassies do really weird things. You can never expect in advance how much are you going to pay for consular services.
