Embassy report: Azerbaijan visa in Tbilisi

Post by becycling »

We applied (with italian passports) for the 30 days Azerbaijan Visa in Tbilisi.

Documents required:
- Passport copy (you can keep the original while waiting)
- 2 pictures
- Application form collected and filled directly in the embassy
- LOI or hotel reservation. As suggested from the same embassy, we booked a random hotel for a few nights and then we canceled the reservation.

Procedure time is 3-7 working days. We called the embassy the forth day and our visas were ready. Price is 35€.

Hope is useful.

Thanks!
Do you remember how long have you been waiting to get a confirmation from hostel? How much time whole procedure took you?
Did you have to pay for hostel and then, after cancellation, money was given back to you or it was all without paying in advance? If so, do you remember name of hostel?

And the last: registration of stay is still a rule that nobody cares?
Greetings.

We applied (with french passports) for the 30 days Azerbaijan Visa in Tbilisi.
We knew the same procedure than becycling.
- Passport copy (we let our passport but maybe it is possible to keep it)
- 2 pictures. 3*4
- Application form collected and filled directly in the embassy
- hotel reservation. We booked one night in Baku on booking.com, then we canceled it.
The embassy is located at the V. Gorgasali str along the river. The gate for visa is on the right side. It is open from 10:00 to 12:00 (applying) then from 16:00 to 17:30 (collect visa). Be careful, some people from the close travel agencies said to us that we need a LOI and they can help you for 80euros. But you don't need.
Price is 35€ but you have to pay in Georgian lari cash. You pay at the azerbaijan bank which is located in the north west corner of the liberty square. 15min by walking.

We applied on monday, we collected on Friday.

Just checked, everything works as was written above. Only difference is that they were satisfied with one photo. Applied on Thursday, collected on Monday.
Also I have met travellers who claim that they've met somebody :D claiming that in Batumi there might be chance of getting visa, but I didn't check it so it is info to be confirmed.

MedeaTravel offers complete visa service for $70 no Hotel reservation or LOI needed.
Processing time: 5 working days.

English speaking Ekaterine will help you.

We crossed the border at Lagodekhi with our own car. A 1982 mercedes 207D. We were told we needed to pay a deposit for $4000 because our car wasn't a "euro class 4" which means any car built after 2006. I waved my carnet de passages but apparently they don't do CDP's in Azerbaijan. I didn't want to pay this deposit so we ended up with a 3 days transit for the car. we decided to call Ismahel (+994 702861200) for help. We needed to get on that ferry to Aktau as soon as possible. Ismahel ensured us we could relax. He helped us arrange a Kazakh visa and according to him he could "extend" the transit with 5 days which actually meant we payed a fine of $50. But something went wrong in our communication and we had to leave our car in the customs at the port untill we could board the ferry.
Ismahel is a very capable guy with lots of contacts but sometimes communication is not as smooth as it should be and we had our doubts about him being truly honest. He told us we did not need to worry about anything and we could call him any time, but when we did, he did not answer. Vika at the port called him a "muggler" But he saved our asses and it would have been a real pain in the butt to get all this sorted out without him.
Anyway: costs for the ferry: $500 for the car and $120 per person..
Also: when picking up visas, be sure to triple-check your name and other details cuz the Kazakh embassy spelled my GF's name wrong which meant another trip to the embassy to get it fixed and we nearly missed the ferry because of it.
