Uzbekistan embassy in Baku and two-days gap in passport

Postby becycling » Sun Feb 01, 2015 6:28 am

What happened in Baku at the Uzbekistan embassy?.. That genius of the uzbek consul (or just an employer), already famous with other travelers, just got us into a nice trouble. We regularly asked for a 30 days visa (from 26/02 to 27/03), but without giving us any notice, he issued it with the duration of 28 days, claiming it was a Tashkent directive.

Well, as you can guess, we already have our tajik visa starting exactly the 27/03, so now we have 2 days in the land of no one! While we tried to explain this, he just kicked us out threatening to cancel our visas. :x
Please note that one week before, when we applied with the form, we asked confirmation about the maximum duration of 30 days, and we showed him the dates, but this employer is always very rude, impolite and arrogant! Without mentioning that it is the most expensive visa among all the stan's countries at 75$, and that he also gave us an option for an urgent processing, saying that it was 105$ but that the processing time was still one week. :?
Anyway..

1. Can you understand why they didn't issue a 30-days visa? Is there some reason that we don't know?
2. What happens if we regularly go out from UZB the 25th arriving two days before at the tajik border? Can we sleep two nights in the "no men's land"? Do you know some international laws or regulations about it?

Really don't know why he did that. I was in the Uzbek embassy in Brussels last week for a 30 days visa and he gave me an extra 2 week window, without me asking or paying for it. So def not a "Tashkent directive."

You can stay in no man's land AFAIK. I think a better option is to get an extension. It is a hassle, but not impossible. See the Uzbek visa page for more details.

I guess you learned your lesson already, but for future reference: I always let my visas overlap a day or 2. It tends to decrease the stress.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, we were lost in the Kazakhstan desert ;)
For the Uzbek visa you just need one picture and the application form. You can collect it in the embassy or print it from the website. They took a copy of our passports as you can keep the originals. Price is 75$, processing time is one week. We asked for a urgent procedure, but staff was very rude.. he replied we had to pay 105$ but that processing time was likely going to be one week long.. Kind of weird.

I'll open a new post for the Tajik visa, but everything was very smooth. One pic, application form filled at the embassy, 35$ and three days.

Should be noted that 1 week processing is without LOI (right?). With LOI should be same-day procedure.

We didn't have any LOI, right!
