Embassy report: Iran visa in Tbilisi

Post by bretonsuisse »

We applied (with Swiss passports) for the 30 days Iran Visa in Tbilisi.

- They make the passport copy (you should let our passport )
- 2 pictures. 3*4
- Application form collected and filled directly in the embassy
- hotel reservation. We booked by an Agency at Tbilisi http://www.asa.ge/en/ and then they canceled it after we collect visa
you need to have a reference number we use http://touranzamin.com/en/
The embassy is located 41.710766 44.743402.
It is open from 10:00 to 12:00 (applying) then from 15:00 to 17:00 (collect visa).
Price is 50€ you pay at the TBC bank 15min by walking.
We applied on monday, we collected on Tuesday.

We (one French and one Italian) just got out of the Iran Embassy in Tbilissi, under a horrible shock.
We followed all the steps and showed up at the Embassy with all the paper needed.
Then, the man asked us to pay 100E EACH to him in cash. We protested but he said that the fee is 100E now and you don't need to pay at the bank but directly at the Embassy. We asked for a receipt but of course he just repeated that we could go back the next day to collect our visa.

We warned our two friends, going there a bit later and they promised not to let it happen again. I hope they were more successful than we were.

Apparently there is this guy by the name of Shota in Tbilisi ebassy who is an arrogant douchebag.
I went to the ambassy to inquire about visas some months ago, he told me: "You have two options: 1) Pay 100Eur here, 95% no, 5% yes, 3 weeks to 3 months time for the visa; 2) (handing in a business card) Go to this agency [Best&First Georgia] pay 250$, get your visa in 2 weeks."

After that we arranged a meeting with a consul there. He was more friendly, we talked, he copied our passports and said that we should call back after two weeks to hear from Tehran if we can get our visas. Didn't pay anything for that. But, two weeks passed, then two months passed and there was no answer.

So, now we are in Yerevan and the embassy is so much better here.

P.S. Hey, potatoes! It's one of the guys you met by Warszawa bar recently :)

We met 2 guys at the Iran Embassy: the first one, very arrogant , handed us the Best and First Travel Agency for insurance. We insisted that we already had ours and he spent some minutes before admitting that ours was OK.

The second one, very friendly at first, asked for 100 euros each. But the same morning, we just went back there, telling him in a very polite way that we had done some research and it's clearly mentioned that the tourism visa was only 50e and we had news of people who just had the visa here in Tbilissi for the same price. We asked him to check again wether there was any misunderstanding...

He was clearly uncomfortable to see us back, especially that the door of the Consul's bureau was open and we heard people talking.... He waited until people left completely to talk with us and gave back the money without any problem, saying that our reference number was unclear, he thought that we asked for a working visa.....

We collected our visa on Wednesday morning because the Consul was sick on Tuesday. It was quick, not any more pb but the guy was cold when he gave us back our passports :-) :-)

PS: Hello HM Roads :-) Great to hear from you, hope you are enjoying Armenia, looks like you already had your Iranian visa :-) We leave Tblissi tomorrow!!! Maybe will catch you on the way

Hi All,

A friend and I are in Tblisi looking to get an Iranian visa, we already have our reference number. However we read here that we also need to show the consulate a hotel reservation which is where our problem begins. We went to 3 tour agencies today (including the one originally mentioned above) and none were able to provide us with a booking for a hotel which we could then cancel afterwards. Either the cancellation policy of the hotels would no longer allow it or the hotels were starting to question the sudden amount of cancellations.
Therefore we we wondering how essential the hotel reservations are and if anyone has any tips on how to get a hotel reservation for Iran ?

Thanks!

Hi All,

Just a quick update. We managed to get our Iranian Visa in Tblisi. As we had problems finding a hotel reservation which was cancelable (Most likely due to the Iranian New Year), we used the details of a friend/contact person in Iran. All we needed was: name, address, and telephone number. Other than that everything went smoothly;
- we did not experience anyone who wanted 100€ for the visa. The friendly man behind the counter just gave us a piece of paper with the details of the bank and said to pay here 50€/ visa. (The bank is at: 41.7104, 44.76215)
- Our insurance papers were accepted, even though they were completely in German
- We applied on tuesday and picked up on wednesday.
- for us extremely uncomplicated!

Hi cheers!
The hotel reservation is for the first night in Iran or for the all 30 days visa?

Hi Nuria,
I remember reading somewhere that depending on your 'Itinerary' they may issue visas with shorter validity. So a hotel reservation for only one night might not get you a full 30 day visa. Perhaps its possible to have a booking for the first few nights in Iran and for the last few nights and then use the argument that you will find a place in between when you are in Iran. Just a thought though, no idea if they would let it through.
Best of luck!
