My partner and I are in Nepal at the moment, had been hoping to get a China Group Visa for the two of us and join onto a Kathmandu-Lhasa overland tour at the start of May, but have just heard that the rules have been changed to enforce a minimum of 4 people to apply for the group visa (who would have to enter/leave the country together).
We were planning to get trains from Lhasa up to Urumqi / Kashgar and then leave via land border to one of Kazakh/Kyrgyz/Tajiki-stan.
Sounds like none of this will be possible now unless we find 2+ other people who want to do exactly the same thing!
Anyone else thinking about this sort of route over the next month or so?

Re: Nepal to Central Asia overland via Tibet, May 2023
Hello
My partner and I are in exactly the same situation. We have already arranged a tour and were planning to leave on 11 May but we are flexible - we haven’t officially booked anything. We had hoped to leave earlier in May but with visa processing times and upcoming May Chinese public holidays seems 11 - mid May is more realistic. We have exactly the same route planned.
I have sent you a private message with my WhatsApp number.
Thanks

Good morning,
my name is Carlos, a cyclist from Spain.
I am currently in Kathmandu searching how to reach Lhasa, so I can take there a train to mainland China. Not sure about my plan after that, but I would really appreciate if you could give me any information. I have sent you a private message with my contact info.
Thank you in advance
.
Have a nice day

Hi Carlos
I’ve dropped you a WhatsApp message. Happy to try and help - it’s all a bit confusing and there is a lot of misinformation out there (and a lot of Kathmandu based operators making false promises)!
Best
Will
