Aussie father and son planning overland motorcycle trip 2019 Australia to Germany, looking to share info/advice/costs for passage from Khunjerab Pass through China to Kyrgystan.
Likely around mid May 2019.

I recieved the below email from tour Chinese tour operator, any on done this or simliar, and anyone intersted in joining a group for saving's? below.

"The weather is favourable for motorcycling early July. But the Khunjerab border will be closed on weekends and other holidays, so please choose the working days entering China.

The price will be lower for more participants.

Here is our offer for 2 persons with 2 motorbikes, it is our estimated price for 2019, the tour price maybe will be different at that time.

Day01 Enter China, after custom formalities, drive from Khunjerab Pass to Taxkorgan, 130KM, approx. 2.5hrs. 1N in Taxkorgan

Day02 Tashkurghan – Karakul Lake – Kashgar: approx. 280km. 3N in Kashgar

Day03 Kashgar: vehicle check and obtain the temporary name plate and driving license.

Day04 Kashgar: city sightseeing. 70km. Visit Kashgar includes the bazaar where many Uygurs do busines and the old city area of Kashgar, Id Kah Mosque and the Tomb of Abakh Hoja etc.

Day05 Kashgar – Irkeshtam: leave Kashgar in the morning for the border at Irkeshtam , 234KM, approx. 3.5hrs. Cross the border and exit China. Service ends.

Tour price for 2 persons with 2 motorbikes: RMB25100,- per group
Extra costs for possible additional day: RMB720,- per day per group

Includes the following services:
Full set of vehicle import documents/paper works in China for self drive
Arrival check in at Chinese customs Konjerab and exit customs handling in Irkeshtam
Chinese temporary drivers' license and temporary vehicle plate/tag
Vehicle inspection after entry China
Vehicle liability insurance fees and the third-party insurance fees in China
English speaking guide as the liaison to be at your service throughout the tour from Konjerab to Irkeshtam
Wages to the national liaison includes his hotel accommodation and daily meal supply
Chinese travel accidental injury insurance

Price excluded:
Meal service in China
China visa fee
Hotel accommodation and overnight camping tents when applicable
Fares of China toll road, bridge and tunnel access charges when applicable
Tips and gratitude to your national guide
Sightseeing tickets and admission fees for tours, excursions and trips
Personal expenses and persons issues such as drinking water, phone call, shopping etc.
City taxi and or other kind of public transport in the cities for the tours
International travel insurance, first-aid charge and charges of emergency evacuation
Car fuel/gasoline in China and Car fix and repair fees
The fee of bank charge
Customs deposit of vehicle (paid through WEITU, refunded per bank after exit of China)
All other services not mentioned in the inclusions and itinerary"

Hi there,

How's your planning going?

We're a 30 year old Aussie couple on 1 motorbike, also planning on crossing from Khunjerab > Irkeshtam or Touregat Pass.

June or early July 2019 would probably be a more likely window for us. Seems like this is a more enjoyable time to do that stretch as well — May gets really cold up there!

Also, have you come across Lun Wang?

Read a lot of good things about him on the HUBB forum — apparently he's cheaper and easier to work with than many of the tour companies. He doesn't have a website, but his email is [email protected]
