Azerbaijan by motorcycle

Howdy,

In the summer of 2016 I plan to ride my motorcycle from Georgia to the 'Stans and would very much appreciate some guidance on crossing Azerbaijan. Is the law regarding the 72 hour customs limit on motorcycles still in place? I read somewhere that Azerbaijan authorities were planning to relax this restrictive law but I would like some confirmation from an overlander.

I do not want to pay the hefty customs bond and also do not want to get stressed by any delay getting out of Baku on a ferry. I intend to apply for a Tourist Visa to give me time.

I appreciate any guidance on this issue.

AFAIK it is still the same, sorry. "Something-is-going-to-happen-soon-just-wait-a-little-bit-longer" is the most common type of news headline in this region. I pay no attention to it. Only if people actually report that something has changed it will go on the website.
