Self drive from Russia to Kazakhstan to Mongolia

Hi,

I'm currently mid-way through the planning stages of a self drive tour from England to Malaysia and I would be extremely grateful for any advice on this portion of our journey. We'll be heading into Kazakhstan from Russia, then back into Russia to cross into Mongolia and then China. Would anyone be able to confirm the following for me please?

Can I get a Kazakhstan tourist visa from Russia as I will be taking several months travelling through Europe after I leave the UK?
I understand I need to go back into Russia to cross into Mongolia so can I get a transit visa from Kazakhstan?
Similarly can I also get a Mongolian tourist visa from either Russia or Kazakhstan?

3. Yes, Almaty is very easy, probably Astana no problem either.
