I'm riding motorbike through Stans on my way to Europe from Vladivostok in June/July

I am going via Tashkent, and eventually Iran, but also want to see Khiva and Aral sea. which is a big detour

Which option would you suggest;

1) Side trip by plane from Tashkent for say 5 days. park bike in Tashkent, then ride on via Bukhara and through Turkmenistan to Ashgabat

Ride to Nukus (is there a road to Khiva (looks like goat track on google maps?) then side trip to Aral Sea (park bike in Nukus) then through Turkmenistan to Ashgabat?

Appreciate comments

I would say it depends what you want to do in Turkmenistan. On the Khiva-Ashgabat track main sight is Darwaza gas crater, Bukhara-Ashgabat has Merv.

Bukhara-Khiva-Nukus is a long way by road, it's as far as I know still under repair, but need to check this with local sources (will do this asap and let you know). But know that if you want to see the Aral Sea, you will need to take a tour or hire a taxi from Nukus if you don't have your own transport, it's not like you can take a bus there.

So either way there will be a lot of transport. By plane you will still need to go to Khiva and the Aral Sea with other transport, by motorbike you will have to add the trip from Bukhara to Khiva, but you don't have to fly back, or worry about your motorbike.

It's a dilemma :)

Just checked with the people on the ground: Bukhara-Khiva is still in a bad state, will take you 9 hours drive minimum.
