Uzebekistan long-term car/motorbike parking

Post by Vorarlberger »

Hello travellers, I hope this forum is the correct place for my questions.

We are planning the next leg of our trip from Dubai crossing Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan by our Toyota Landcruiser. For family reasons, we want to break our trip in Uzbekistan for a short time and fly home.

Now we have some questions: Is it possible to enter by car and emigrate without the car? The carnet is not required, but how is he car recorded at entry? Does anyone have information on this subject?

Greetings from Dubai

Thomas

Leaving a bike in Uzbekistan

Post by m2b »

Is it possible to leave my bike, go home by plane, and come back to Uzbekistan 3 or 4 months later? (perhaps 3 months makes a difference). When you enter Uzbekistan, do you stamp in your passport "entry by road"?
I know it is easy in Kazakstan and Kirgistan, but I have a plane to catch from Tashkent, hence my wish to park the bile there. I could not find any answer on that particular country in the forum.

Just a hint to another thread:
On Uzbek side we had an interesting situation: we didn't give the car documents to the border post, and he didn't ask for them. It took him very long, he had a phone call and discussions with his colleagues, but he didn't talk to us about it. In the end, they let us go without the car. At customs, they noticed their error. We had to go to the other side to stamp in again, then stamp out with the car on the exit side. So it seems that, at least in theory, you can leave Uzbekistan without taking your car with you.
