Petrol, gasoline and diesel in Pamir and Tajikistan

Hey all-

Anyone know the rules regarding filling up Gerry cans at petrol stations in Tajikistan?

there is only one:
first pay, then fill.

And if the fuel doesnt look clear, run away!

If with a diesel car, fuel in Murghab can be not there or of bad quality. Would be better to stock up as much as you can in Khorog at a normal fuel station.
In Wakhan there is almost no fuel after Ishkashim.

Cars are provided with filters for fuel and oil, water would be the only thing to worry and you can see water the easiest.
I traveled the Pamir and had no problem either finding where to fill, or running out of fuel. Obviously there are instances where you cannot see the fuel being poured into your tank, weather is at night or out of a metal can, but the stations as well as the quality of fuel are as ok as they can be for the place.

"good" gasoline?
there is not much choise.
the only sure place for gasoline between dushanbe and gulcha is khorog.
kala i-khumb, ishkashim, murgab, sary tash - sometimes yes, sometimes not.
plus a few small stations (filling from barrels or canisters) on the way - but only in western pamir.
if they have fuel.

Gasoline is easier to find. Also (definitely) in Uzbekistan.
But both types of fuel can be of poor quality.

This May we rode the Pamir Highway by motorbike
We refueled in
Dushanbe (Station),
Kalaikhum (old Station about 2 km towards Langar)
Khorog (Station)
Alichur (asked the owner of Marco Polo Guesthouse, He called a friend. Refuelled 10 litres Out of Jerry can*)
Murgab ('Station' with huge tanks, right side of the road, opposing the 'agricultural bank'. Tank - canister - motorbike)
Sary Tash (station)

Never Had any quality issues, A92 was Always available.
Not Sure what was in the Jerry can in Alichur, the Bikes ktm 1090 & BMW F 800 worked just fine

* We use a 'Mr. Funnel' fuel filter when refueling out of canisters
