Tips for 4 weeks in Central Asia

Post by Eirik »

Hey there fellow travellers ! :)

I am looking for travel companions and tips on places to go and things to see for a 4 week trip in October/November.

Will be arriving in Samarkand on the 15th of October in the morning.
Then flying home from Teheran on the 13th of November.
Will apply for a Turkmen transit visa in Tashkent on the 17th of October.

Definetly want to see the door to hell in Turkmenistan.
Besides that, thinking about Northern Tajikistan. Panjakent,Iskanderkul lake and maybe the Yagnob valley.
Probably i wont have enough time to make it to the Pamirs.

A couple of days in Almaty. Then probably check out some places around Osh, like Arslanbob,Toktogul and Talas.
And maybe a couple of days in Mazar i Sharif in Afghanistan. If i go there i will organize it via a guide/tour company.

My itinerary is very flexible, and I'm open for everyting.
I don't want to plan to much beforehand, trying to be spontaneous and take it slow. :-)
I enjoy both cities and the countryside. Would like to do some hiking, but nothing too ambitious.

I would appreciate any tips and info..:-)

4 weeks isn't much time. I suggest you write down a daily itinerary (better yet if it indicates what kind of transportation you'll be using), as this will help you figure out what is realistic, and it will be easier to give you feedback based on that.
