Pamir Highway from Dushanbe to Osh in November: Transport tips and Kyrgyzstan land crossing

Post by NathanJW83 »

Hi all,

I am planning to travel to Tajikistan from 4 November to 19 November.

From 11-19 November, I will be travelling up the Pamir Highway (at least, that is the plan). The itinerary looks like this so far:

Dushanbe > Nurek > Kulob > Khorog > Murghab > Karakul > Osh - and from Osh, will fly home to London.

I wanted to ask a few questions:

1. What are the likely problems I will face regarding transport up the Pamir Highway?
2. November is one of Tajikistan's driest months, but does that mean the entirety of the Pamir Highway will be open?
3. Any tips for places to stay in Kulob / Murghab and Karakul?
4. Is the land border crossing between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan likely to be open? If not, I may limit my visit up to Khorog only.

Am fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Any feedback would be amazing.

Best wishes
Nathan
