Travel in Central Asia stans during Ramadan

Post by P123 »

Hello!

Ramadan this year is from 6th June 2016 to 5th July 2016.
I'm planning a trip for this summer, which would see me arriving in the middle of this.

Are there any special considerations to take, or anything I should be aware of?
I have never been to a Muslim country during Ramadan, although I have read generic advice for travellers about it.
I haven't figured out my itinerary yet, but possibly Turkmenistan>Uzbekistan>Kyrgyzstan.

Thanks!

Hello,

Last year we visited Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan during Ramadan and there was nothing to signal. Restaurants and important cultural sites were open and we kind of forgot about Ramadan until the day we arrived late in our hotel in Bishkek and the owners were having a big party for Ramadan and invited us to join them. Nice food (for once ;))!

Central Asia is not Muslim in the same sense as the Middle East: eating during the day and consuming alcohol continues throughout Ramadan.

Tajikistan During Ramadan

Post by mechalert »

Hello,

I will there in Dushanbe and Khorog during the end of Ramadan and eid holidays.

Is restaurants and bars open during this time, or everything is closed till the Ramadan gets end.

What will be the status of shared taxis during the eid holidays, what if i need to travel from khorog to Dushanbe of the day of EID.

Hi,

things are generally open, same for taxis. Not everybody works, but it is possible to get around and to get something to eat.

Any special issues traveling to Stans during Ramadan? Access to places to stay? Places to eat during the day?

Ramadan in April and Covid situation

Post by Mort »

Can you please tell me if US citizens (tourists) are being allowed into Uzbekistan without restrictions? I am finding conflicting information. Is the situation grave there? I have received both of my vaccinations. Also, with Ramadan being in April, will many sites be closed, restaurants closed and souks (stores) be closed? Basically everything that makes travel, travel? Thank You for you kindness in responding.
