I am planning a bikepacking trip from Nice, France to Nepal for next year.
In my rough plan I reach Tbilisi, Georgia by early November. Due to weather, I plan to stay there, or somewhere similar for the duration of Winter. As I am a poor backpacker, I was wondering if there are any types of opportunities for employment (alternatively volunteering) in either Georgia, Azerbaijan, or Western Kazkhstan/Uzbekistan over winter. I speak English, French and Dutch.
All help appreciated,
Toby
Employment/Volunteering on the Silk Road
Re: Employment/Volunteering on the Silk Road
Maybe teaching English, but your English level should be at least C1 for this (and even then you'll have a hard time without basic knowledge of the local language or Russian). In any case, you'd be violating local immigration law (also, no country except for Georgia will allow you to stay this long). Also, you won't be making much money due to the generally low wage level in all of these countries. Good news is that you really don't need much money to spend the winter in, say, Tbilisi. In short, forget about it.
