Kyrgyzstan Song-Kol/Kul Hitchhiking

Post by JONO5K1 »

Easy 1 day return hitchhike from Kochkor. I paid 20 som (that's all the driver requested) from Kochkor to the Song Kul road and was picked up immediately and paid 70 som (he didn't specify a price but requested money) in a very slow van to the lake junction, where a Yurt camp owner then picked me up for free and took me to the shore. I had a picnic then walked back around 16:00 to the Song Kul lake road junction and was picked up by a van which drove me to central Kochkor and I paid 200 som (once again, money was requested but no price given and 200 was my smallest note). The lake was windy but worth the trip. The landscapes during the peak assent were very pleasant indeed. There were plenty of yurt camps in September still. A Yurt camp owner told me they all close late October bar 1, which intends to operate throughout the winter.
