Turkmenistan transit with a tourism visa

Post by aroch200e »

Hello all, i traveled to Turkmenistan with my wife and year old son (french citizen) in july by overlanding with our car on a tourism visa. We chose this option to avoid the random rejections with transit visa. We ordered our LOI from Travel Notoria's website, they are 50% cheaper than any other option we cheked. Very easy process, Artem who seems in charge answers every email quickly. You have just a form to fill in, a picture and a copy of your passport to send. Paiement is once you are in Turkmenistan, you do not need to prepay. We got LOI approval in 3 weeks, sent by email. Visa pickup at the border.

In all we stayed 2 night in Ashgabat, 1 night of camping at Darvaza crater and left at Kunya Urgench.

For 2 adults and a baby, 4 day visa from Bajiran in Iran to Kunya Urgench at Uzbekistan border, included a night in a double room at AkAltyn Hotel in Ashgabat, the price was 535USD without the visa fee (100USD for us 3 at the border)

The great thing is that we did not need a guide for our route, even if every forum and travel guide of the internet says it is mandatory. Artem says he can arrange the autorisation for the transit without guide but only for the prestated route. This is a nice and not very expensive alternative for overlanding through Turkmenistan from Iran to Uzbekistan if you get rejected of transit visa or do not want or have the time to try the application at the embassy.
