Hi there,
In a little over a week my partner and I intend to over the Karkyra border crossing from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan. As far as I have gathered we need to take a minibus from Almaty's Sayakhat bus station to Kegen. From there we will need a taxi to the border, and we will need to either have pre-arranged pick up on the Kyrgyz side or be prepared to spend days hitch-hiking.
So my questions, to fellow travellers, are:
1) Are my above assumptions correct?
2) Do you need to charter you own taxi from Kegen to the border or are there shared taxis? How much should you pay for this?
3) I contacted CBT Karakol for pick up at the border. They ask 80 euros. That seems very expensive I think - are there any alternatives?
I am curious to hear if anybody has done this recently and can help shed light on this.
Thanks in advance,
Bertil
