Feedback asked on travel itinerary Pamir highway and Uzbekistan

Post by Travelmates »

Hi everyone,
I’d like to gather some feedback on the following itinerary. Especially if we have planned enough time for each destination or if we’d better skip Nukus/Aral sea. Any recommendations instead of Aral sea (like Termez, Fergana valley) or is it better to take more time to visit Samarkand, Buchara en Khiva? Thanks in advance!

Day 1 Arrival in Osh at 6.35 am
Day 2-10 Pamir highway trip

10 End Pamir highway trip, arrival in Dushanbe
11 Stay in Dushanbe
12 Dushanbe-Samarkand with shared taxi
13-14 Samarkand
15 Samarkand-Bukhara by train
16 Bukhara
17 Bukhara-Khiva by shared taxi or train?
18 Khiva
19 Khiva-Nukus by shared taxi or train?
20 Two day trip to aral sea
21 Aral sea, back to Nukus
22 Nukus-Tashkent by plane in the morning
23/24 Fly back home in the morning

Well Nukus is not that interesting, and what means a trip to the Aral Sea? Do you just see the boats in the sand or do you take the long trip to the actual Aral Sea shore where it is now?
We skipped on it. You could spend an extra day in Khiva just to enjoy the atmosphere. Maybe an extra day in Buchara so you have plenty of time.
No need to spend extra time in Samarkand. You could also consider a stop in one of the lakes in the Fann mountains.

I echo Lovetheworld. I found the North Aral sea shore - Aralsk, Kazakhstan - a lot more interesting and, with the recovery of the North Sea, also a great deal less disheartening. I've fallen head-over-heels in love with Bukhara, so my advice would be to spend more time there. Two days are enough to get an idea of the main sights, but the beauty of the place is to go around and get lost in the alleys.
