Central Asia - 5-13 May 2019 - Start Tashkent

Postby KIWI_MIKE » Fri Dec 21, 2018 4:57 pm

Hi there. I have flights booked, I need help on figuring out how to do things and what to do. I would like to see Samarkand, see some mountains / maybe go walk a trail. I would love to get some pictures of an ibex in the wild and buy a knife (Chust?) and maybe a carpet.

I would prefer more time in then hills then in the cities...

I fly into Tashkent and leave from Tashkent 9 days later. My flight to Bangkok leaves from Almaty, so I could do an overland trip...

I am happy to be doing a lot of travelling and seeing different countries as I have a relaxing holiday as my next destination

I think doing the full Pamir I may run out of time?

Any suggestions would be great. Anyone travelling at the same time, let me know

Thanks

I could suggest the following:

Tashkent - Bukhara - Samarkand - Fann mountains (TJ) - Khujand - Tashkent.

You can take 4-5 days for a good hike in the Fann mountains (or Yaghnob valley) and the few days before spend in Uzbekistan.

I think you fly out from Tashkent, right? Because you say you fly out of Tashkent but also you fly out of Almaty. Bit confused there.

Thanks for the advice. I have a flight from Tashkent to Almaty and then onto my next destination, so I was thinking I could make my own way to Almaty and then fly on from there?

What's the thoughts on going overland from Osh up to Almaty are there some good walks there?

I am thinking of taking the train to Bukhara or Samarkand, can I rent a motorbike from there and do some of the rest via motorbike?

There are great hikes of any sort around Almaty.
You can see the mountains and do plenty of walks near that city. As you're going there anyway as I understood.

Also had good hikes near Karakol in Kyrgyzstan.
There should be enough info about hikes in that regoin in Kyrgyzstan. It's quite popular.
