Day hikes in Fann Mtns or Yagnob Valley?

Post by tasmanlee »

Hi, I will be with a group doing a road trip from Bishkek to Dushanbe. After saying goodbye to the group in Dushanbe I have about 6 days to explore another area of Tajikistan before flying out. Given that I will have been through the Pamirs, would the Fann Mtns be very similar? Would the Yagnob Valley be just as interesting and with more contrast?
My aim is to do day hikes. It will be June when I am there. Many thanks for suggestions.

I can't comment on the Yagnob Valley, but the Fann Mountains are very different than the Pamirs. The Fanns are much more accessible than Yagnob, as well.

For day hikes, you can do the 7 lakes near Penjikent and a hike around Iskanderkul. Everything else in Fann mountains or Yaghnob requires tents and overnighting.

The new trekking in Tajikistan guidebook has a number of day hikes around Dushanbe.

Looking for dinosaur footprints in Shirkent is another option

Thanks for the suggestion Steven. I will try to work out how to do the 7 lakes and Iskanderkul as day walks.
