Wagah Border (Lahore - Amritsar) PAK - IND

Hi I'm new here, found some great info looking through the forum! A friend and I are about to set off from Malaysia in a car hoping to get back to the uk in about 3 months time, we we're wondering if anyone's crossed the Wagah boarder recently in there own car? We can't find any information on this! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am from India. However, never tried to enter Pakistan by any means. So, absolutely no idea on this topic. However, what I would like to share here is if you (you and your co-traveller) have any Indian connection (fathers, forefathers Indian or if your name and face sounds/looks like Indian), you should expect a great DEAL of issues. The same is true if you enter from Pak to IN and if you have any Pak connection. The site indiamike.com(and no conflict with caravanistan in terms of coverage) is generally a good one to get idea about India and neighbouring countries. Hope it helps. And, we always like to come back and read your experiences of this route.Pls do share.

Although not too many travellers will be concerned... here's a brief update.

My Dad is Indian, as well as my family Name.
I hold a German passport.

When entering Pakistan (from China/KKH) not a single question was asked reg. my family.
On our way to Lahore we had at least 10 Checkpoints (Police, Army ....). Same here, everyone did their job(more or less enthusiastic) but No questions, all fine.

Crossed this border recently.
2 Travellers, German passport
2 Vehicles, German Registration

Both countries did a great job, took us about 2 hours.

Pak side does a few more passport Checks then other borders before you arrive at actually Immigration Building & Customs, left of the road, a bit Hidden.

Ind side the Building is to your right, there's a Gate with guards.
India was the only country that checked our engine numbers at vehicle & Carnet.

It is just an ordinary Border, nothing Special.... The 'Berlin Wall of Asia' rumours I've heard somewhere are not true.

Well, it is not an ordinary border in the sense that they have the border closing ceremony, and there is quite some attention for it as it is the only border between these two countries that don't like each other.

But yeah, in terms of crossing it, not a big deal.

Nice to hear that nothing changed. It was also for us the only border where they really checked all the numbers, and went with mirrors under the car.

I just talked to an Indian relative. As far as he knows the land border at Wagah is open.
... not sure regarding the train connection, this night be down

But he also says that this could change on short / without further notice as both countries are shelling each other & minor battles are going on.

Hi all, does anyone know whether we can cross from Pakistan to India at Wagah with an Indian e-visa?

If you've got Indian e-visa already stamped in your passport it should be not a problem-I did it couple of weeks ago.Even crossing back shouldn't be a problem according to what the immigration officials said to me at the border(although officially it states that you cannot enter India overland on e-visa.Apart of what I was told personally by oficials at Wagah border on Indian side I've heard also that one traveler crossed it twice-out and then in on e-visa.)
I personally re-entered India overland from Bangladesh on my e-visa recently-not problems at all.
