Hi
Can you tell me whether there is a long walk (e.g. kilometres of no man’s land) between the Tajik side and the Uzbek side between the two countries, at the Penjikent border crossin? I am on foot and have a large bag, plus another.
Also, how long is it likely to take to reach Tashkent by taxi from the border?
Are they the official taxis, or just standard cars operating as de facto taxis?
Thanks
Penjikent border crossing - long walk?

Re: Penjikent border crossing - long walk?
about 350m door to door.
i remember once i and a friend were crossing wagah (ind-pak) with 112kg on our backs (including climbing gear and so) in high monsoon season - more than 45C and 99% humidity.
and it is 1200m.
fortunately in wagah there are some trees.
and fortunately penjikent is hot but dry :)

Thank you mazeno, 350 m is not too bad! I certainly don’t have 112 kgs!

It takes about 1h by shared taxi from Tashkent to the border. It's not a long walk. On the tajik side we paid 1 USD per person for a shared taxi ride to penjikent. They brought us right to our hostel.
