Imigration card scam...

Postby philippe » Wed Jul 01, 2015 9:20 am

Hello everybody,

seem that there is a scam going on about imigration card when leaving tadjikistan. Numerous traveler (including me) were not given card when entering Tadjikistan (especialy at kyzyl art border) There was a Japanese guy yesterday leaving by plane, and he was ask 100$ because he didn't have that document, sadly he paid... The other japanese people present at the hostel, call their embassy and they've been told that this was a scam an to not pay this fee. They even give them (the japanese embassy) a telephone number to call if the border guard give them problem...

Wonder if this already happen to someone else...

We'll cross tomorow (with the japanese in question) from dushanbe to the Denau – Tursanzade border. We'll give more development...

So if you read this, make sure you ask your imigration card when entering the country!!!

Have a nice journey

Thanks for this information.
I !made sure I received a card when I crossed into Tajikistan at the Batken Isfarna border, a week ago.
I am so going to enjoy presenting it to the guard!

I have also heard that they ask for a purchase receipt for bikes, from cyclists.
I am writing my own one out!

Any update about this scam ? We gonna enter TJ soon from UZ. Should we then require getting that immigration card while entering ?

Everyone entering Tajikistan from any border should get the form/card and keep it until you leave. This was noted in the (older) Lonely Planet I used, so the scam has been around a while. I took a picture of mine when I got it (it isn't stapled into your passport) in case I lost it, but I don't know if this would have helped. The backside of the form was a big Beeline ad.

Hi everybody,

when we cross the Uzun border (between dushanbe and samarkand) the Tajik border ask for it, we say we didn't have it and then, no further question. The guard were friendly and everything was smooth. Maybe at dushanbe airport is different.

Enjoy your trip!

I seek updates on this. I (nor anybody in the group of 6 or so travellers who hired our jeep to Murhab from Osh) didn't receive any immigration card at Kyzl-Art border and will be crossing into Uzbekistan via Oykbek in a day or two, to now read about this. I only have my border entry stamps and entry stamp on the GBAO permit. If this is no longer an issue, can we remove this from the border crossing page because I'm sure I'm not the first (nor will I be the last) to fret over this before crossing. I don't intend to pay a cent to get past an administrative error (stitch up?) which is not my fault.

I left without this card at the Tursunzoda/Denau crossing a few days ago and they didn't mention it at all.
