An attack on a police station following the banning of the last remaining opposition in Tajikistan, the Islamic Party, has allegedly killed 17. For now, danger for travelers seems low, but this might spark another round of GBAO refusals, and possibly more violence in the near future as the economic prospects of Tajikistan go even further down the drain, and any form of non-violent protest is made impossible. We're leaving Osh today heading down the Pamir Highway (typical loop towards Khorog). We'll update on if the situation is affecting travellers as we go.

Dear steven and NOMADasaurus, please let me know your advice on the pamir highway situation as time progresses. I saw the recent news and I do have travel plans beginning oct 16 to go from Dushanbe to Osh but the possible violence is really worrying me.
Thank you!!!!

It's fine. The violence was never targeted at regular people or foreigners, it was an internal government conflict. I wrote it here mostly for the danger of GBAO permits not being delivered again, but this seems to be not an issue. Now is a good time to travel, the danger for landslides (a much more real threat) has subsided. Enjoy!
