We are in Karakol (Kyrgyzstan) and someone told us the Torugart pass border is closed until around 20th September because of some celebrations in Tibet. He suggests that other (or all border crossings from Central Asia) may be closed as well.
Does any body has any more extended information about it?
Closed Chinese borders until the end of Tibet celebrations?

Ask the people organising Torugart crossings: CBT and Kubat Tour in Naryn. The following came out of the discussion here: http://caravanistan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1185
Apparently from official sources in Kashgar, emigration and customs are at rest for the 2 passes from 23rd to 27th sept. reopen 28th. Due to Kurban Eid.

But if it is so, it is only in that border crossing, right? Not crossing through Kazakhstan-China borders.

Re: Closed Chinese bordes until the end of Tibet celebration
Have you heard a seconding of this info - that the border reopens on 28th? My Chinese agent (based in Chengdu, so not clear about it himself) is hearing it doesn't reopen til 29th. Any backing up of either version of the end date for Kurban Eid would be fabulous.steven wrote:Ask the people organising Torugart crossings: CBT and Kubat Tour in Naryn. Re: Closed Chinese bordes until the end of Tibet celebrations?
Please note that October holiday in China starts on October 1 for a week. Borders might be closed but not sure.

I don't know either. If anyone knows of a reliable source of Chinese border closures, please share it! This is a recurring issue and I haven't been able to solve it.

Update: Chinese borders are closed 1-3 October for God-knows-what this time.
