The crossing point is somewhat 40 kilometers away from Kalar. Be careful to watch out for the right direction as the way is a little bit confusing. We also got lost and had to cycle back about 10 kilometers. But if you follow the big road you should not have a problem.

We crossed on a friday so the border was quite empty. I guess it is way more crowded during working days. The Iraqi side was quite straight forward and took us only 20 minutes. The Iranian side took longer. Nobody spoke English and they didn't even had Internet on their computers to use Google translate. In the end we were able to call an Iranian contact we made beforehand. This quicks things up.

After 1.5 hours we were welcomed to Iran. Bags must go to an x-ray system and most importantly it is also possible to cross the border by foot. On both sides taxis were waiting but I didn't ask for prices.
