This article https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-51591091 , which notes that Iran is up to 4 deaths, quotes a doctor who says that the virus is likely now present in all major Iranian cities. I would watch Iranian borders and quarantine regulations.

Needs to be verified of course, but the outlook is negative.
Has there been any confirmation or update about this?
We have a tour for five days mid March. We are very keen to visit Turkmenistan if we are able. Do we hold tight and wait for an update or do we cancel the plans and reroute the trip?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Yep, the Iranian government is trying to suppress information on the spreading of the virus in Iran to avoid more protests, leaving room for rumors (which are currently spreading in Iran) and making it much harder to contain the virus. Earlier or later, they'll find out how dumb this is, but currently, I'd be very cautious in Iran. Probably, more neighbor countries will follow the Iraqi example and close the border in the forseeable future.

Does anyone know if these measures also affect people with unused Chinese visas in their passport? I have already got a Chinese visa, but I will probably skip it when I go in a few months. I would guess it doesn’t matter because then I wouldn’t have any Chinese stamps in my passport, but it might be alarming because of the tensions at this time.

Armenia and Pakistan have closed their borders too. Iran is now inaccessible by land. (or not, as the Azeri border might still be open)

If it's a tour, ask your tour operator. They are the oness who know best. We are always guessing, only hearing rumours and things that happened after the fact.

I don't think that's an issue. The only thing your unused visa proves is that you haven't been to China, which should be a bonus.

An article about border closures with Iran says Armenia is planning a 2-week closure. Everyone else (including Turkey, wasn't mentioned here before) - not sure: https://www.jpost.com/Breaking-News/Tur ... ort-618495

Here is another one: https://www.jpost.com/Breaking-News/Tur ... ort-618495 - no flights from Georgia.

Astara border might still be open between Azerbaijan and Iran. I could not find news on its closure.
