Is the road, border or area open and accessible to foreigners? Is there danger?

Tashkent to Dushanbe by taxi

Postby Peke » Sun Sep 20, 2015 6:44 am

Hi, i've been reading around at the forum and website without finding a direct answer on how one goes from Tashkent to Dushanbe by taxis in one day.

My impression is that you take a taxi from Tashkent to Bekobod and cross the border at Oybek. Then you take a taxi from Oybek to Khujand and take a new taxi from Khujand to Dushanbe. Perhaps one can take a taxi from Oybek directly to Dushanbe?

The question is if this is a good/correct way of going, but also what the travelling time would be. I've seen anything from 8-16 hours to do the whole stretch. For instance, someone wrote that going from Khujand to Dushanbe would take 12 hours, while someone else mentioned 6-8 hours. Also, what should one expect as cost for the different stretches?

We will be two guys travelling and our plan is to take our own taxi, not a shared one, when going between these cities.

Thanks :D

It would be a very long day usually, but now that the Anzob tunnel is under repair, it is going to be a very very long day.

Of course you can take a taxi from Oybek directly to Dushanbe if you are willing to pay extra. Most people want others to share the costs and transit at Khujand.

The Anzob tunnel cut the Khujand - Dushanbe driving time from 12-17h to 6-12 hours. The tunnel is under repair (until October, they say), meaning you will have to take the old roundabout way. So let's say Tashkent to across the border is 5h, then another 12 to Dushanbe. A long day. I would do it in 2 (actually, I would probably take a week), but perhaps your schedule does not allow that.
