Re: Road condition in central asia

My two previous posts show how different mountain roads can be. Now about the roads on the plain, the official roads. The first is the road of republican significance from Almaty to Ust-Kamenogorsk, A3 and A-350.
The first stage: Almaty - Kapchagai. Six lines and a speed limit of 140 km / h. Payment of 200 tenge for a passenger car. Everything is fine, it can be very slippery in winter.
Second stage: Kapchagai - Tyldy-Kurgan. Four lines, speed limit 110 km / h. Free for now.

Further, to Ust-Kamenogorsk, one big repair (about 800 kilometers). The road to Ucharal is being made faster, by the summer of 2021 it will be basically ready.
But at the end of August 2020, I had to go around the worst sections through Lepsy. It turned out to be 60 km. longer, but 20 minutes faster.
Well, further, beyond Ucharal and to Ayaguz, this is the picture:

It is also not known exactly when the repairs on the Ust-Kamenogorsk - Ayaguz section will end. Both videos were filmed at the end of August 2020.

Now there is little information about the roads of East Kazakhstan. You can drive there from Ayaguz through the city of Zaisan and Lake Zaysan. Friendly advice - do not try to quickly go to the road of republican significance M-38, its condition is very poor. It is best to use this type of transport on this road now. ))

Drive on local roads, their condition is much better.

And a few more about East Kazakhstan. The road from Lake Rakhmanovskoye goes through Katon-Karagai. Then you have two options. The first is to go straight to Ust-Kamenogorsk. The second option is to turn left and go to the Irtysh river. There is a very good road here along the Bukhtarma reservoir.

Using the services of the ferry, you get to the other side of the river and can continue to move to another interesting place - Sibinskie Lakes.

Now about the weather. Large open and flat areas of Kazakhstan are a place of strong wind and storm. Snow storm in winter and sandstorm in summer. I found myself in such a storm in August 2020.

So far, everything is about East Kazakhstan. Now about the roads of South Kazakhstan. The Kazakh section of the "Western China - Western Europe" transport corridor passes here. It starts from the Khorgos border crossing. The first video shows the road "Almaty - Khorgos". This road is toll.

https://youtu.be/O320kSSW2Zw

Then, from Almaty we drive westward through Taraz and Chimkent to Kyzyl-Orda. This road is not far from Almaty, near the Kurdai pass. The new road goes around this pass.

From Chimkent to Kyzyl-Orda.

The most interesting place after Kyzyl-Orda is Baikonur. The cosmodrome objects can be seen from the Chimkent-Samara route.

If you feel an irresistible desire to travel from South Kazakhstan to West Kazakhstan to the Caspian Sea along a short road, then I will show you this way. I warn you right away - this is not a road, but a direction. The control points of the route are as follows: Aralsk - Saksaulsky - Bozoi - Turysh - Beineu. A good asphalt road starts from Beineu and continues to Aktau.

Technological road Saksaulsky - Bozoi, along the gas pipeline.

Further direction to Beineu.

We will continue moving to the west, towards the Caspian coast. As already mentioned, there is a wonderful road to Aktau. Also, good asphalt goes to the north from Aktau (Fort-Shevchenko) and to the east (Zhanaozen).
This is the city of Aktau.

We continue to move. Now let's try to drive from Western Kazakhstan to Northern Kazakhstan.
The most terrible road in Kazakhstan is from Atyrau to Aktyubinsk. In the photo the road is shown in the daytime, in the video it is day and night. I highly recommend the night roller, on this road my canister of gasoline cracked.

The road between the cities of Aktyubinsk and Kostanay was, in general, not bad. Further, from Kustanai to Kokchetav, on the border of the North Kazakhstan region, surrounded on all sides by water, there was a real "tankdrome". The following video shows how long I drove through this section.

The road from Kokchetav to Karaganda is very good. Four or six lanes for traffic, high-speed section Shchuchinsk - Nur-Sultan (this section is paid).

Image

But further, from Karaganda, everything is much worse.
The first direction is east. Points of interest are the Karakaraly mountains and, further, you can come to Lake Alakol. But the road ...
There is asphalt to Karkaralinsk. The asphalt is old, but still alive. Then it's really bad.

The road Karkaralinsk - Ayaguz.

Kazakhstan. Balkhash Lake. This road is not on the maps, but you can drive along the northern shore of the lake. Interesting and wild places.
