"Jartepa chegara bojxona posti" is that full name or what? Panjakent BC, any full form of BC? Actually Panjakent boarder or Panjaskent city? I am writing my Itinerary so need to know it clearly. Pls. HelpFlyingCarp wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 4:27 pmUzbek side is Jartepa chegara bojxona posti

Crossed the border Uzbekistan - Tajikistan and vice versa between 6-8 May. From Samarqand : take a Yandex for about 120 UZB Som. Easy and relaxt crossing by foot. Took about 30 minutes in total. Change money on Tajik side. Private taxi to Panjakent for 70 TJK Somoni. Can probably get it cheaper with hassling.
If you come by own car, be very aware of police and 40KM speed limit in villages. Many checks. Our cab got stopped and fined.
Tajikistan to Uzbekistan: also very relaxed. No real checks. Can change money on the Uzbek side (do it there if you need UZB som as they give you better rates). Private Taxi to Samarqand for 15 dollar. Need to haggle a lot and then some more probably while in the cab. If you don’t go to Registan make sure to close negotiations beforehand. Be prepared for some of the worst driving in the world (fun fact: our cab didn’t have a rear view mirror but rather showed a camera view of what was happening in front of us)…

And whatever you do: don’t get ZET mobile SIM card. We got that in Panjakent and the reception was shambolic even in bigger towns.

Re: Tajikistan - Uzbekistan crossing at Panjakent
Tashkent - Samarkand - Panjakent - so far the easiest and the fastest border crossing in Central Asia.
1. From Samarkand Train Station - bus 71 or/ and 12 (2000 UZS) goes to Kaftarxona bus stop/ station. Yandex map is useful for that.
2. From Kaftarxona - shared taxi (car with 4 passengers) costs 20 000 for a seat. Marshurtka tried to rip off me asking 100 000 Taxi driver (who didn't try to rip me off) dropped me at the border.
3. After crossing the border (no registration slips, no stupid or any other questions were asked) - seat in the car costs 20 TJS. In the end they took me for 10 (but I don't think is a price anymore...).
I didn't see any currency exchange on any side (I was there 20:00-21:00 in the evening). Luckily I changed the money with locals on Uzbekistan side (using google exchange rate). Bring dollars/ euros or have enough of somonis before arriving in Panjanket. Today I did "ATM's hopping" - 15 ATMs (yes, 15) and I didn't get money But there are some currency exchange points (next to bazaar) where I finally could exchange some eur...

Re: Tajikistan - Uzbekistan crossing at Panjakent
Crossed from Samarkand to Panjakent May 29, 2024. As smooth and straightforward a border crossing as the last couple in Central Asia have been.
Took a Yandex from near the Registan in Samarkand to Kaftarxona bus station for 13,500 som. From there caught a share taxi for 20,000 som. Had to wait about a half hour for it to fill but no big deal. Took about 30min to reach the border.
No issues at all on the Uzbekistan side. They did not ask about our registration cards at all. No line ups and we were through in 5min or less.
The Tajikistan customs had only one person working so about a 20-30min wait (at around 11am), but similarly smooth with no issues. Changed money at the exchange after customs. 80 somoni for 100,000 som.
Lucky enough to catch an almost full share taxi from the gate for 15 somoni to Panjakent. Approx 15-20min drive and dropped us a 2min walk from our hostel.
Found a couple ATMs with cash and a megafon sim store next to it on the Main Street here near the fruit/veg bazaar:

No guarantee but it worked great for us!
