Border crossing Kyrgyzstan/Tadjikistan on Friday, October 4, 2024.
Single French woman 65 years old traveling by shared taxi and hitchhiking.
Left CBT1 in Sary-Mogol by shared taxi (200 soms = €2.15). 1h30 waiting at the junction with the M41. Kyrgyz driver to the Kyrgyz border. (1,000 soms = 10.76€) Fast cross-bording with passport and registration number on the list (3 to 4 days delay to obtain it at destination OSH located in Osh. $15). Second desk with camera and stamp on passeport. No luggage checking. Then 20 km in no man's Land. 1 hour walk before a car stopped and drove me to "exchange place" (1,000 soms). About 1 or 2 km walk to Tajik customs. First office : stamp and GBAO verification. No copy needed. Second control outside, the passport is held through an open window. No luggage checking. Waiting for a car for 1h30. Driver who returned without tourists to Karakul. (200 Somonis = €17.11 for 51 km). Hard to leave Karakul. 5 hour wait and 2 vehicles including my driver. Hardly any cars. The law of supply and demand is really not in our favour
Hey! I have seen several people asking if this border is doable with rental vehicles but no answers. Can this be done currently? Can anyone share any rental companies that would allow it?

We crossed in October with our Kyrgyzstan-registered vehicle from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan. Before realizing the car was registered to me, the guards asked for a General Power of Attorney (gen-doverennost) from the owner, so I would assume that so long you have this, you should be ok to cross. Keep in mind you'll need a Kyrgyz permit for both yourself and the car.
As far as I know, Zoro Moto in Osh rents cars and they allow you to cross to TJ.

That's great news, thanks for the update.
I actually have the WhatsApp number of one of the guards (he wanted to buy our zhiguli lol), so if anyone wants to confirm directly with the Kyrgyz border guards, DM me lol.
We've seen in our embassy website that this border is opened for everyone but local hosts confirmed it's stil only opened for tourists.
The registration via email is still needed even if you can enter KZ visa free. It has to be made a least 2 days prior crossing, an Australian was stuck and had to sleep at the border even though he organised the crossing via a reputable hotel, the confirmation just didn't arrive on time.
We were quoted 400usd for a private car Murghab-Osh , and advised to cross via China to lower costs as hitch hiking is more doable there (because of traffic).
Has anyone done this border crossing recently?
The agency we are organising Pamir highway (dushanbe-osh) has said they think the permit will be cancelled but if not they can organise it.
I've tried emailing [email protected] but I'm not sure when I'll hear back. I can't quite figure out if it's just a registration or an actual permit, there's no information I can seem to find with government websites. Thanks for any insight!
same question - does anyone have any information or even better - any experience about the tjk and kgz checkpoints on the pamir highway after the last march border agreement? is it possible now to cross the border at the kyzyl art pass/bor-dobo from tjk to kgz without any other permits/registration (except the gbao permit, of course)?
Howdy! Looking for reports on the driving from Aral to Jalal-Abad through the mountains. Obviously the tunnel isn't completed yet (nor will it be by...
