forbidden roads - altyn arashan and karakol gorge

Post by minion »

rental cars seem prohibited in accessing these areas - altyn arashan and karakol gorge

so if you want to stay at a guest house located here https://maps.app.goo.gl/bHEvjQcjWot3CJZw8 where would be a safe place to park the car? not sure if break in is a concern in that region

thanks,

The last part of the track to Altyn Arashan is very rough. Even the truck and the jeeps were in difficulty after a heavy rain.

For Altyn Arashan you should leave your car in the last settlement Teploklyuchenka - perhaps at one of the guesthouses in the south (or just ask someone). From there it is a 18 km hike - the last part is rough as Willemspie wrote, but I enjoyed it very much.

Your only way to reach Altyn Arashan by car is to arrange a transfer - mostly old but trusty 4 x4 Lada Niva or UAZ (Buchanka). You can organize this via the Altyn Arashan guesthouses or one of the agencies in Karakol.

We did this on the way back to Karakol when heavy rain made the track into a mess. We were lucky to be invited by 4 guys that had their transfer already secured. The Buchanka ride was crazy, but safe - and one of my favourite memories of my time in KGZ.

Safe travels!

yes i saw the road.condition to altyn arashan on youtube . agree it is rough. so at Teploklyuchenka, https://maps.app.goo.gl/2APJC8JRit4Zigra6 it is fine to just park overnight by the street? googlemap actually labels this as parking lot, and then northwards after that , "4x4 recommended"

what about the road to Karakol Gorge? i never actually figure out where exactly is the gorge vs the valley startpoint location (lets say, here https://maps.app.goo.gl/gjPZXH6vy7FQhaiV9) .

is the road equally bad like the one to Altyn Arashan? how do you get to Karakol Nature Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/NPckmMx4q8xsanHA7 if you dont want / cannot ride horseback? can easily get 4x4 ride from Karakol village? what is the GPS coordinate of this site
