Temirbaba (Turkmen-Kazakh) border crossing reports

The British Foreign and Commonwealth¹ office reports that the Turkmen-Kazhakh border has been closed until further notice. As always when the Turkmens do things, there is a lack of further information. If you're in Turkmenistan on a transit visa right now and stuck because of this, I recommend contacting the Embassy of your country ASAP.

So I tried to call to the number specified on the Tu bordr crossing page ( +7 708 987 3935) and the guy was pretty angry, he said he has nothing to do with it and does not know anyrhing about Temirbaba. So I suggest delete the info from the site.

One more note, I went to Turkmen embassy in Bishkek today and after some calls they confirmed that the crossing is still closed.

Temir-Baba has been off-limits for a while now for holders of Mangystau registered ID's who do not need a visa. With that in mind, you also had to have a contact with someone close to the border to ask if they let people in as Turkmen border tends to be erratic and closed without any announcement and explanation given.

P.S. 90% of the Aktau to Temir-baba road is of excellent quality, however last 10 kilometers are horrendous, SUV's are recommended.

I want to travel from Turkmenbachi to Aktau (Kazakhstan) by sedan car.
Can someone tell me if:
- the Garabogaz border is opened now?
- is the road between Turkmenbacho to Aktau is good enough for a Sedan car?

In 2017, the last section of the Garbogaz - state border route is a ride on the steppe. No asphalt, ruts, sand. He can do it in a sedan, but slowly.
