Road conditions from Tajikistan to Kyrgystan mid/end June

Is the road, border or area open and accessible to foreigners? Is there danger?

Road conditions from Tajikistan to Kyrgystan mid/end June

Post by JillStafford »

Hello!

We are planning on an overland trip from Tajikistan to Kyrgystan in the middle toward or nearing end of June. Can I expect the roads to be in good condition at that point or is it still too early to expect snow and ice to be gone from the elevations?

Thanks so much.

Hi,

We have done it last June with our cars, no ice nor snow on M41 even at 4000m height.

This is an English written forum.

You should be fine in June but at the highest peaks above 4000 meter you can never gaurantee it, there is always a very small chance of snow.
Roads are not that great but very doable, there is one bridge missing which means you have to go through a bit of water (not very high, no special car needed) but then up to some ridge which is quite high for normal cars (non 4x4). But then they manage it with a lot of stuff as always in these countries.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do the passes with a 2wd camper at the moment? heard horrible stories this morning about knee high snow and mud on the streets between Murghab and the kyrgyz border from a lady how drove there 2 weeks ago

Any news on that? thank you so much!!! :)
