Tavildara Pass M41 northern route

Is the road, border or area open and accessible to foreigners? Is there danger?

Hello Murg

The latest update (two days ago our) our driver came via Tavildara (Khobu Robot Pass) and the road is open. The other road via Kulob which is the main road is also open. You can decide which one to choose. Please note that the road via Tavildara is unpaved and not maintained well (most part of it) till Qalai Khumb but it is more scenic and cool than the road via Kulob (this one takes you first to the south (Kulob) before reaching the Panj river (and the temperature would be kind of hot 30-35C +).
enjoy your trip.
best

Tavildara pass road conditions

Postby matt2matt2002 » Mon Jun 24, 2019 5:39 pm

Any thoughts on the road condition between Dushanbe and Kalaikhum. It's over the Saghirdasht pass.
I know it is always subject to extreme weather conditions.
I did it by bike 4 years ago but have since heard that it is not receiving any repair work. The money is being spent on the Southern route.
I guess it makes sense to keep just one.in good order but would like to retrace my route for my next visit.
Anyone traveling that way? Especially interested in anyone biking it.
Thanks folks.
Matt
