Driving Kok-Art pass (so called "North-South alternative")

Post by Chasing the Cardozas »

Howdy! Looking for reports on the driving from Aral to Jalal-Abad through the mountains. Obviously the tunnel isn't completed yet (nor will it be by the highly optimistic Nov 2019 goal), but I'm wondering if there is a functional road over the pass? What is the road like? When does the pass clear of snow?

I'll be driving down to check it out in a few weeks and will report back here in any case.

I believe the only option for now is Jalalabad - Kazarman - Song Kul - Kochkor.

Hi,

we want to travel the route Kochkor-Song Kul - Kazarman - Jalalabad by bike. Anyone knows if this is already possible now May or if passes are still closed?

Thanks

Am interested in the same itinerary, travelling by car though ;)

In case someone sends you a direct message with the answer, please be so kind to let me know!

Cheers,

Hi,

1 week ago we tried to get from Narin to Jalal Abad by 4x4 via Kaldama pass.
Unfortunately, the road was still unpassable. There was still a lot of snow on the road and we had to go back. We also saw traces of previously arrived cars doing the same.
I don't know about the situation on the top of the pass, but what we saw, can be managed by bike, at least by pushing the last section of the road.
On the other hand, it is very hot in the last days in Kyrgyzstan, it might get possible very soon as the snow is melting rapidly.

Hi. Can anybody confirm that Jalalabad to Kazarman is open. In Taran - Bazar there is the sign that road is closed, but it seems like old one. Start this month there were several cars stuck in sary-kyr pass. Thanks
