Taxi to Panjakent border

Who can we book taxi with to take us (2 people) from our hotel in Samarkand to the Panjakent border in the morning of 9th September. What would the cost be?

For the trip in reverse I paid $5 for a (not shared) taxi from the border to my hostel on the other side of Samarkand. But I speak Tajik and I was travelling with a Tajik. Your price may vary. As for who can book a driver, I would hope any decent hotel can do that.

On the other side of the border you can get to the Panjakent bazaar (the centre of the city) for $1 per seat in a shared car. So for about $5 you should be able to talk a driver into going to most places in Panjakent. But the Panjakenti drivers can be shady, especially the ones who go from Panjakent to Dushanbe. So expect anything.

I asked our hotel in Samarkand (located next to Registan) about booking a taxi to the border, and they quoted $40, which we thought was quite expensive. So thats why I was looking to book a taxi with someone else.
