Hello,
Anyone knows if the main road between Murghab and Khorogh is open for cars? Or do we still need to go through the Wakhan valley?
Is it possible to do the Wakhan valley with a 2wd? I heard there is a 100m stretch of sand. Are there enough other cars that could pull us through (we are a 3 ton VW transporter).
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Pamir Highway landslide
info from a friend who just came back from pamir (he had been in pamir less than 2 weeks ago):
m41 closed near khorog toward dushanbe. crossing roshtkala valley requires strong 4wd and a lot of offroad driving experience. pyanj river valley from langar to ishkashem is passable. afgan side is not passable (long passages under water). over 100m of the road near murgab destroyed, strong 4wd required. bartang valley is not passable.
(it is not just a panic report - he is well experienced offroad traveller).

Re: Pamir Highway landslide
In mid-September the roads were all open.
Since washouts and flooding are due to spring/summer melt-waters, I think it highly unlikely that any roads will have been affected in the last few weeks.

We drove from Murghab to Khorog from 15/9 till 19/9. All the roads were clear at that time.

Re: Pamir Highway landslide
We just arrived yesterday in Khorog coming from Murgab.
Everything is fine, there's now quite a big lake where the road was. About 20 houses were flooded but luckyly no one was killed.

Re: Pamir Highway landslide
Has anyone else recently traversed the Pamir highway? Looking for condition reports.
We are planning to set off from Dushanbe to Osh along the M41 in one or two days. We are driving a very old 2wd Lada Jiguli. She's seen some offroading already, but does anyone see any massive show-stoppers here? Any input on the length of time required would be helpful as well.
Thanks
