From Yerevan to Western Europe by land

Post by KaisaN »

I'm planning/dreaming of a trip to Yerevan in September. I would be flying therebut it would be interesting to travel back to Finland by land (trains and buses). In the current political situation, Russia is not an option and obviously not Ukraine. So, the way I see it, a possible route would be something like Yerevan-Tbilisi-Batumi-Kars-Ankara-Istanbul-Bucharest-Budapest-Warsaw-Baltics-Finland. Do you see any reasons why this should NOT be done? Covid restrictions, political issues, something? My current knowledge is that it should be possible to travel from Armenia to Georgia and then to Turkey and onwards.

We arrived in Yerevan 3 days ago. Drove there from Germany and heading to Iran next week. No issues at all. Especially nothing related to covid. Everything feels like pre-pandemic.

Don't worry and enjoy your trip!

Sounds like a nice plan, I don’t see why it could be problematic! By the way there’s a direct train connecting Yerevan to Batumi twice a week so you don’t need to have an additional layover in Tbilisi unless you actually want to explore the city.

Yes - should be no problem at all. But you'll need to take the ferry to Finland, so that's "cheating"... Why not go via Germany, Denmark, Sweden and then via Haparanda to wherever you need to go in Finland?

Oh, by "by land" I meant "not flying". :)

How long did it take you to drive there?

3 Months! But we took our time and did not drive the direct way.

Same here in Georgia. It's like covid never existed.
