We got an authorisation code through Caravanistan very quickly in just 5 days, then we applied for a visa in Iranian Embassy in Kiev (Ukraine).

You do not need to mention Iranian hotel and it's address there, if they ask say it will be booked by your travel agency later. But mention Tehran as arrival and departure point, it doesn't matter later. Do not mention any land border crossings! It is requied to submit two copies of application!

Price: 61 € (60 € + 20 UAH) for Ukrainian nationalities. For others check by phone.

We've been told to come in 7 days, however they asked if we are in a hurry and it was actually possible to collect visa in 3 days for same price. We weren't. Same day visa = 101 € (100€ + 20 UAH).

Staff was very polite and there were no queues at all.

There are more and more cases in Iranian embassy in Kyiv, when visas are issued without an authorisation code.
I've heard about 4 of them during last 2 months.

Technically it looks like this: people come to the embassy and just say "we don't have any bloody invitation as we are going to Iran for the first time and of course we do not know anyone there" (as basically this authorisation code can be also obtained by the invitation from a private person). Then staff just collects documents (photos, itinerary, passport) and money and visas are issued same day.

This experience is about Ukrainians who apply in Ukraine, but possibly it does make sense to be checked out in other countries by other nationalities.

Thanks orest, i think there is certainly something afoot in iran and i think it is a harbinger of things to come, namely large-scale visa-free. Will add it to the article.

Hello, we just wanted to share our experience in applying for an Iranian tourist visa in Kiew.
We are German passport holders and for us it was not possible to apply for an Iranian tourist Visa in Kiew.
We went there in September 2016. At first they took our passports. After an hour of waiting time the lady told us that we get a visa on arrival on Teheran airport. We told her that we are travelling not by plane and will enter Iran from the land border of Armenia. After another 30 minutes of waiting she came again and said we should apply for an iranian tourist visa in Yerewan. It only seems to be possible to get an Iranian Visa in Kiew as a citizen. We finally got our visa in Batumi (without LOI).
